On Thursday, August 23rd at 7:00pm, my new ensemble ¡Todos De Pie! will be performing in Millennium Park's Pritzker Pavillion in downtown Chicago as part of the Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz Series.

We will be performing Puerto Rican Bomba y Plena music from the first half of the 20th century, the Bomba y Plena 'revival' in the 50's and 60's, as well as 2 new pieces inspired by the poetry of Antonio Amorós Santiago, my grandfather.
¡todos de pie! is a chicago-based music ensemble exploring puerto rican folk musics bomba, plena, seis and music of the jíbaro through the contemporary lenses of puerto rican free-jazz/experimental percussionist, frank rosaly.

as in american jazz (and particularly chicago jazz), one honors tradition of the music by moving beyond it. this group means to adhere to this idea with respect for the music of puerto rico and american jazz. by utilizing electronics with traditional puerto rican instruments such as panderetas and the cuatro and alongside trombones and flute, ¡todos de pie! aims to interpret puerto rico's rich musical heritage by inviting contemporary improvising, jazz, experimental and traditional puerto rican musicians to play together.

thanks to the jazz institute of chicago, lauren deutsch and kate dumbleton for their continued efforts and contributions to the music community in chicago.
